Richard G. Stefanacci, DO, MGH, MBA, AGSF, CMD

Dr. Richard G. Stefanacci holds Master’s degrees in Geriatric Health and in Business Administration. He completed his clinical training in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Geriatrics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is board-certified in Quality Assurance and Utilization, and a Certified Medical Director (CMD).

Dr. Stefanacci is the Executive Director, Center for Medicare Medication Management, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, an organization focused on pharmaceutical issues including the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA). The Center has also been involved in issues surrounding delivery of care for long-term care patients and those experiencing geriatric syndromes, such as Alzheimer’s disease, depression, gastrointestinal disorders, and falls.

Dr. Stefanacci is a Health Policy Scholar at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. He spent one year working on the development and implementation of the Medicare Part D Pharmacy Benefit, particularly on access issues for the frail elderly. He has served as Medical Director for several nursing facilities and continuing care retirement communities. His geriatric experience spans over a decade as a medical director in a large primary care private practice, a full-risk provider group, a Medicare + Choice (M+C) HMO, and recently for a Philadelphia-based branch of the Program for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).

As a geriatrician for the St. Agnes LIFE program, Dr. Stefanacci has been involved in direct patient care and the implementation of quality assurance and utilization initiatives for the frail elderly. He is currently working with New Courtland on several new programs, including the introduction of an electronic dispensing and prescribing medication system throughout their network of LTC facilities.

Dr. Stefanacci has served on the board of trustees at his alma mater, A.T. Still University, and the National PACE Association. He is active in the American Medical Directors Association (AMDA), American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP), and the American Geriatrics Society (AGS). He has been recognized as a Fellow by the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and AGS and is an honorary lifetime member of ASCP.

In addition to writing and lecturing extensively, Dr. Stefanacci currently serves as editor-in-chief of Assisted Living Consult and Medicare Patient Management. He sits on the editorial boards of the Consultant Pharmacist, LTC Interface, Managed Care, and Thomas Jefferson University’s Health Policy newsletter.
